The Anesh people's culture values local autonomy and citizen participation. After gaining their independence as a nation, they rejected the idea of a powerful ruling or upper class. Now favoring a decentralized ruling class, with power mostly distributed among small autonomous groups.
The Sovereign acts not as a ruler, but as the voice of the people, beholden to the groups and citizens she serves. Despite holding no significant legislative or executive power, she see's beyond what her people want and acts quietly on what she believes they need. Her image and her actions have created a dissonance within her, as she does her best to prepare her people for the storm ahead.
A Changing World
Thousands of years ago humanity was nearly wiped out by ancient beasts of mysterious origin, leaving behind otherworldly obelisks as silent reminders of their near extinction.
In the present Jorunnd, a praetor of the Five Lands Alliance, is tasked with determining the origins of a drug that bears an uncanny resemblance to a substance used by an isolated nation.
His investigation takes a turn after discovering a connection between the drug and the ancient creatures now resurfacing. As Jorunnd’s circumstances change he joins forces with an old friend. Together they navigate new dangers, facing the realization that survival is no longer enough. Humanity itself must adapt to confront the horrors of the past or risk being consumed by them once again.
